OSVi offers a vertical model of care that integrates the skills of surgeons and allied health professionals. Depending on the nature of a patient’s injury, they may be referred to our sports medicine physicians, physiotherapists or exercise physiologists for conservative management before a decision is made about whether or not to proceed with surgery.
Surgery is an invasive procedure that is not undertaken lightly. When indicated, though, it can deliver significant improvements in function that improve quality of life by enabling patients to return to much-loved activities, such as playing elite sports or running around after their grandchildren.
Both traumatic injuries and degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis can create the need for surgery to improve knee function and enhance quality of life.
Surgery may be undertaken in response to persistent hip pain, traumatic injury or reduced mobility that has not responded to conservative treatment.
Sports injuries, overuse injuries and traumatic events like collisions and falls may lead to fractures or severe soft tissue injuries requiring surgical intervention.
Overhead arm motions in everyday life or in sports like tennis, swimming and cricket may lead to shoulder injuries requiring surgical repair.
The elbow receives extensive use in both sports and daily life. Restoring function and range of motion can improve quality of life.
Pain, deformity or loss of function in the hands and wrists can significantly limit activities and independence.
Rehabilitation after surgery has traditionally been a time when patients experienced disjointed care as a result of being shunted between different healthcare providers.
Because OSVi integrates all areas of musculoskeletal health care, we are able to stay with each patient throughout both the acute and rehabilitation phases. This promotes long-term recovery and enables patients to benefit from ongoing support and advice as they seek to return to employment, social activities and sports.
