Andrew Russell applies cutting-edge neurophysiology to optimise recovery, performance, and resilience.

Andrew Russell, holding a degree in exercise physiology, postgraduate training in Psychology, and currently studying a master’s in neuroscience, bridges the gap between physical performance and brain-based science. Using his unique interdisciplinary expertise to combine the science of physiology and neuroscience principles Andrew maximises injury outcomes and develops strategies to promote high performance in people’s lives, particularly in:

  • Managing tailored injury prevention protocols, and incorporate their training to fit into their current life set up
  • Improve total load management to maximise rehabilitation and performance outcomes
  • Establish behaviour change strategies applied to injury or life outcomes
  • Establish stress resilience techniques
  • Maximising daily recovery techniques, and building sleep hygiene that underpins individual health and daily energy
  • Evidence-based neurorehabilitation strategies
  • Building training and life habits, as well as breaking old maladaptive habits
  • Enhancing athlete longevity and cognitive resilience
  • Provide guidance on self reflection component of the injury and/ or training process. Answering questions like what is working well right now, and what areas do I need to improve to get the outcomes that I have set for myself.

Who is the program designed for?
The coaching modules are designed for any athlete wanting to build in high performance principles into their program. You could be working towards a new goal in your training, coming back from injury, struggling to build new habits or just need an expert opinion to enhance your current training program.

Dr Bianca Scotney

Sports physician specialist

Bianca completed her medical degree in 2001 at the University of Melbourne. She commenced training in General Surgery before deciding on a career in Sport and Exercise Medicine, which has led to a very rewarding role in caring for patients at all levels of physical activity over the past 13 years. Her previous work with elite athletes and teams has seen her head up major national and international sporting events. Bianca recently retired from 7 seasons as a men’s AFL team doctor to spend more weekends with her own family. She continues in her role on the AFL Doctors Association Executive and providing match day coverage for interstate teams. Bianca is a highly experienced sports medicine consultant and an exciting addition to the MP Sports Physicians team.

Dr Jason Chan

Doctor

Graduated in 1994 at the University of Melbourne. Jason has pursued his interests in sports medicine and orthopaedics for the past 25 years. The Chief Medical Officer for the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club for the past 9 years, Dr Chan has been involved with AFL/VFL/community football, international soccer, Melbourne Rebels and Queensland State of Origin rugby. Founder of Surgical Assistants Group of Victoria, Dr Chan has extensive orthopaedic experience and access to surgeons who are adept at sports issues. A father of 5 and grandfather to 2, when not attending match day with the Storm, he can be found watching his kids playing sports and jogging around the MCG.
